28th April saw my choir practice restart after the Easter break. It’s probably because I was excited and eager to get there, though I’m not actually sure what happened, but the upshot is that I fell down the stairs.
Okay, that’s a bit dramatic. It makes it sound like I tumbled down when I more slid down on my back. We have a U-shaped staircase so I would never have fallen all the way down. I managed to stop myself about halfway down the first part, using both arms.
Being a first aider in a previous life, I checked the back of my head and my neck for pain. Nothing. Once I’d caught my breath, I got up and OW. I hurt all over. I still went to choir.
Of course, the following day, I was sore and achy, and grew some interestingly colour bruises on my arms. My feet were hurt, I’d twisted my right ankle (this is important) and I’d skinned toes (more important).
I told my friend C about it and said that I was glad it was that week and not the run up to Warp 2. I was encouraged to go to hospital but I hadn’t banged my head so didn’t see the need.
Except that my right big toe bruised and then bruised some more. Over the Bank Holiday weekend, it turned purple and black. There was clearly Something Wrong. I got an x-ray on the Wednesday before con. Went to London, had a blast, but also noticed that the bruising darkened again. Walking about clearly aggravated an injury.
Well, I got the result of my x-ray today. My right big toe has a fracture. Yup, I’d done the convention with a broken toe. Oopsie daisy! It’s not bad enough to warrant an op, but I have been referred to the fracture clinic, who’ll make sure it’s healing on its own. In the meantime, I’m supposed to take things easy.
Yeah, like that’s going to happen!
